COCA Clay Workshop

Last Wednesday we went to COCA art gallery. We looked at a craft exhibition and we had to match close up photos to the real things. The categories were: ceramics, jewelery, fabric, furniture, woodwork and metal.

After that we went into the workroom. All of us were really exited! Nikki gave a talk about clay and how to make the clay into dishes. Soon after that we started planning what our dishes would look like. I decided to use an oval as a template. After we cut out our clay we chose patterns to press on the clay.
When we had done that we sponged the edges to make them smooth. Then we rolled little balls to put underneath.
I can't wait until they are fired.

Brainteaser 6- Wet weather

Four friends were walking back home together after leaving the pub. It started to rain so they began to run. Three of them got soaking wet hair, but one of them didn't, even though he was not wearing a hat or carrying an umbrella; neither did he stop to take shelter.
How could this be? Explain

Goldie's Soap Carving

On Friday the one and only Mr Kaukau came in and taught us
how to soap carve.
First we had a big talk about the Maoris, our ancestors and Nemo the fish!!
Next it was morning tea. After that we started to carve. Mine was looking really bad at the start. And by the way Matt's fell on the ground and broke in half.

When we carved Mr Kaukau sang and we laughed as well. Next we had to carve  around the rain drop. That was hard!!
Then we had to flatten the sides. That bit was fun. But as you could guess I was doing it wrong so I had to get some help. Next we had to us a C chisel to put the paua in. When I had chosen the to best pieces I put them in.  Then I carved my korus into my soap and that showed my brother and me.  That was another day with Mr Kaukau.

Soap carving

On the first of May 2009, Mr Kaukau a very funny guy who we all look forward to when he comes, came to visit us.
First we drew a line around the soap using a special tool. After that we used a chisel to shave the backround off the carving. Then it got technical. We had to carve notches coming from the paua see the pic.

Soon it was getting close to the end of the day, we were getting restless 2:54, 2:57, 3:00 '' ring ring'' I finished just in time.
All the boys did the Haka for Mr Kaukau and he talked about passion.
I thought mine was much better than my year 5 attempt.
